About Spectrum of Possibilities:

Spectrum of Possibilities is a small, locally owned company in Houma, LA that provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to individuals ages 2-12 who have an autism diagnosis/evaluation. We are a small but dedicated team of individuals who are passionate about bettering the lives of our learners and their families through providing ABA therapy. We believe there is a continuously growing need for appropriate services for individuals with autism and related disabilities. We believe that we can best serve our learners by utilizing the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Applied Behavior Analysis is an evidenced (research) based service that seeks to increase socially acceptable behaviors and decrease aberrant behaviors by teaching appropriate replacement behaviors. We work on teaching and expanding upon the following skill areas: communication skills, play skills, social skills, self-help skills, and school readiness skills. In addition to this, we work to decrease problematic behavior by teaching acceptable replacement behaviors. Spectrum of Possibilities seeks to maintain each learner's dignity in the therapy process and bring out the very best in each learner by generating a positive approach to treatment and maximizing each learner's strengths and abilities. Our mission is to provide consistent and effective therapy to individuals with autism, form a unified relationship with the families we serve, and share a committed goal with the families we serve to help our learners reach their maximum potential.

Our Philosophy:

  1. We believe that all children, despite diagnosis or labels, can learn and engage in appropriate behavior when provided with the necessary tools and accommodations.

  2. We believe that every child has the right to receive a meaningful and appropriate education that is individualized to their specific needs with appropriate resources and accommodations.

  3. We believe that it is our responsibility as educators and practitioners to prepare our clients with the necessary skills needed to be successful in all future learning opportunities.

Here at Spectrum of Possibilities, we believe that all of our learners have endless possibilities on what they can achieve, and we are proud to be there to help them achieve it every step of the way!

What Sets Us Apart:

Welcoming, Fun & Positive Environment â€‹â€‹

We believe that our environment and the therapy we provide should be welcoming, fun and positive! We aim for our families to feel confident when dropping their learner off to us, and we want our learner to be excited to come to therapy each and every day. To help create our welcoming and fun environment, our center walls are painted fun colors with characters, we have a playroom that houses a wide variety of toys, and we have an outdoor play area that has a wide variety of toys. In addition to this, our staff love to embrace their inner child through their sessions to keep therapy sessions fun and engaging!

We understand the importance of learning through play! Through playing, children can develop numerous life long skills. Some skills that can be developed through play include: sharing, teamwork, creativity, problem solving, decision making, cause and effect, empathy, flexibility, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, cognitive skills, socio-emotional skills, fine and gross motor skills and problem solving skills.

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning". - Mr. Rogers

Individualized Learner Plan and 1:1 Therapy:

At Spectrum of Possibilities, our practitioners (BCBAs and BCaBAs) and direct staff (RLTs), use the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to help teach meaningful behaviors/skills and decrease problematic behaviors/behaviors that interfere with learning. After the practitioner completes an initial assessment with the learner, an individualized treatment plan is created through collaboration with the learner's family that entails specific goals the learner will be working to learn and a list of behaviors that are targeted for decrease. We believe that every learner is unique and their ABA program should be individualized to account for each learner's individual needs, interests, and motivation. Despite therapy being conducted 1:1 (one tech per learner), each learner still has multiple opportunities throughout the day to interact, play and learn with their peers while still receiving their individualized 1:1 therapy. A typical day at Spectrum of Possibilities includes a wide variety of learning opportunities ranging from play based learning, learning through social/peer play opportunities, and structured/table time learning.

Highly Trained Practitioners & Therapists:

Once therapy begins, the learner will receive 1:1 direct therapy by a registered line technician (RLT). Our RLTs are carefully chosen based on completing a federal background check, personality, and experience. RLTs work under the supervision of a BCBAs and BCaBAs, meaning a BCBAs and BCaBAs directly observes RLTs 1:1 direct therapy sessions and provides continuous ongoing training to ensure we are providing our learners with the best and most up-to-date ABA procedures by highly trained staff.

Our BCBAs hold master's degrees, are board certified, and are licensed in Louisiana. Our BCaBAs hold bachelor's degrees are board certified and are certified to practice in Louisiana. In addition to this, they all complete regular continuing education courses and stay up to date with all current research to ensure that each learner is receiving the highest quality of therapy possible. In addition to this, our BCBAs maintain small caseloads to guarantee the highest quality of care. Because of our small caseloads, our BCBAs/BCaBAs are heavily involved in each of their learner's programs, which helps our learners to make progress quicker.

Incorporating Family Through Every Step:

We believe that our learner's family plays an important role in the learner's success. We strive to include our learner's family in all aspects of therapy. Our learner's families help with treatment planning by helping us know what skills are most meaningful to them. In addition to this, our families attend regular family coaching sessions with their learner's BCBA or BCaBA; family coaching sessions are a time for our BCBAs/BCaBAs to teach our learner's family how to ensure skills are being applied/generalized into the home and community settings, and to teach the family how to teach the learner new skills / manage problem behavior outside of therapy.
